SwingSetting the new verb of the season.

Standard

It’s swing season.  If you live near any form of water, it’s specifically tire-swing season.  I stumbled across this cool group who did this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYt3ib1EwNE&feature=player_embedded  , swings across LA to raise awareness and money for a project to place swings in under developed countries and here’s their web site: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/502952195/swings-bolivia so you know they really exist and can understand just how fun a job it must be to put swings up all over the place.

I’m a fan of swings and in my youth used to be particularly great at swinging as high as I could on the school swings with pals then trying to fly off and land on our feet-the goal to fly higher and father than anyone else, which, worked spectacularly until one of my pals broke their ankles on an unstuck landing. . .where’s Bela Karolyi when you need him?!

Rock out to this as you contemplate a donation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BblV6AQsd2s

I break my own legs.

Standard

I thoughtfully included a moment of Schadenfreude for you rather than a pic of myself. . .no exciting cast, just a lovely stress fracture(s) to boast from my running.  I am enjoying a diet with a side of ibuprofen and calcium pills and a shot of milk here and there.  I have a few blogger pals on here who are anti-facebook so I thought I’d make an effort to explain (make excuses as two said) for not updating my run log for a bit.

In short, a public mea culpa.  You’re smart, I”m dumb.  You’re very good looking and athletically superior and I’m great at watching hulu.com.  So, turns out, after decades of dance and ballet, amping up a running program to prep for a marathon-I COULD have heeded some well “heeled” advice.

Stretching isn’t just a suggestion, it’s imperative–all the time, seriously.  Old rehab tricks like writing the alphabet in the air with your toes never goes out of style even if you aren’t planning on whipping out some fouette turns on the dance floor this weekend.  Rotating shoes, regardless of how cute they are or aren’t has to happen, ideally as often as every other day.  Change routes or at a minimum reverse the route and TRAIL/soft surface running should take up more of the training program.  Noted, in my pretty moleskine journal.  My bad.  Lesson learned.

Ohhhtay, one pic.  🙂 Missing running and walking “with purpose” because someone put the kibosh on that as well.:

Because somehow, “I break my own leg” reminded me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leEo3cXOyko

I took both the bellydance and Bollywood classes last summer with my pal J and let me tell ya, you really end up shaking what your mamma gave ya.  I worked muscles in my lower back, in particular, that I hadn’t bothered in years.  First couple of classes are full of giggles as you find your groove. . .if you can, Kaitlyn would be a blast to host a shower or party class for a group of your friends.  Live on the edge, try something new, it won’t kill ya and I promise, there are no super models in the class, just lots of fun ladies from every age group. . .would I fib to ya?  No baby, these hips don’t lie.  🙂  No fightin’.
