A Woman Should Have
by Pamela Redmond Satran

A woman should have…one old boyfriend she can imagine going back to and one who reminds her of how far she’s come…

A woman should have…enough money within her control to move out and rent a place of her own, even if she never wants to or needs to…

A woman should have…something perfect to wear if the employer, or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour…

A woman should have…a youth she’s content to leave behind….

A woman should have…a past juicy enough that she’s looking forward to retelling it in her old age….

A woman should have…a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra…

A woman should have…one friend who always makes her laugh… and one who lets her cry…

A woman should have…a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family…

A woman should have…eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, and a recipe for a meal, that will make her guests feel honored…

A woman should have…a feeling of control over her destiny…

Every woman should know…how to fall in love without losing herself…

Every woman should know…how to quit her job, break up with a lover and confront a friend without ruining the friendship….

Every woman should know…when to try harder… and when to walk away…

Every woman should know…that she can’t change the length of her calves, the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents…

Every woman should know…that her childhood may not have been perfect…but its over…

Every woman should know…what she would and wouldn’t do for money or love…

Every woman should know…how to live alone… even if she doesn’t like it…

Every woman should know…whom she can trust, whom she can’t, and why she shouldn’t take it personally…

Every woman should know…where to go…be it to her best friend’s kitchen table…or a charming inn in the woods…when her soul needs soothing…

Every woman should know…what she can and can’t accomplish in a day…a month…and a year…

Sometimes, half the battle is just showing up.

Sometimes just saying yes and showing up is what it’s all about.

I have reached the fun, “CHECK PLEASE!” point of pregnancy.  I’m ready to be done.  I have a tiny reprieve from nausea which has been replaced by what I’m gently referring to as “pregnancy narcolepsy.”  I feel asleep the other day for three hours with my laptop firmly in my lap, and hadn’t planned on a nap.

I’m working on trying to say YES to as much as possible, which, yesterday included a fun formal/ball gown give away event in down town Jacksonville, NC at the USO.   I think I get extra points for sporting yoga pants, flip flops and a t-shirt in a room full of beauty queens and sequins!  Talk about a technique to light a fire!  Everyone keeps joking about lack of sleep once Baby G arrives, but I’m ready for less bathroom breaks at three am, no upset tummy or splitting headaches not to mention, it’s easy to be happy about waking up in the middle of the night when there’s a cute fella involved! 😉

I hope this event makes its way through the bases again next year. It was a blast to see so many ladies finding a FREE dress of their dreams!  Stay posted and if/when I hear more, I’ll certainly update the post so folks know all the details!

Hope you have a great ball/formal season!  I’ll be doing lunges and squats forever not to mention MANY miles with the stroller and wee man!

We’re expecting and we moved in together.

Moving in together takes compromise.  I said sure to the giant wall-mounted television as long as I got to do a little accessorizing and things could smell like flowers and baked goods.  It’s made for a pretty darn snazzy shared space.  We’d love for you to drop by for a hello, leave a business card, and check it out!

PCSing? Short sale info from HQMC

Standard

From HQMC:

a) The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) recently announced that military homeowners with Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac loans who receive Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders will be eligible to sell their homes in a short sale, even if they are current on their mortgage. Previously, many military families’ only options were to maintain financial obligations on two residences, or to default on their mortgage. Under the new policy, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will not pursue a deficiency judgment from service members with PCS orders for any property purchased on or before June 30, 2012.  PCS orders often require quick moves and can create hardship for military homeowners who are underwater on their mortgages and therefore cannot sell their home without taking a loss. Military families were faced with tough situations such as living in separate homes or the risk of losing the service member’s security clearance.

Service members can check the Fannie Mae www.fanniemae.com/loanlookup and the Freddie Macwww.freddiemac.com/avoidforeclosure/military_assistance.html
websites to see if their loans are held by them or they can call hotlines for military homeowners at 1-877-MIL-4566 or 1-800-FREDDIE.

Environmental Elf Program

Standard
Please pass this message to other teachers, students, and parents.
We need high school volunteers for the Jacksonville Litter Free Holiday Parade / Environmental Elf Program.
Those that are interested should meet at the parking lot on the right side of the Coastal Carolina Community College science building (look for Environmental Elves sign) at:
no later than 8am on Saturday the 19th of November
You can also preregister by emailing Lisa_Rider@onslowcountync.gov .  Environmental Elves program helps high school students earn SAT credit hours by walking in the parade collecting recyclables and trash from parade watchers.  Hats, bags, etc will be provided and the first two volunteers to show up will have the option to hold the banner.
The parade starts at 9am and traffic will be blocked, so you need to make arrangements to have students dropped at the parking lot at CCCC by 8am and meet them at the end of the parade (Brynn Mar Shopping Center).  The parade ends at noon and the walk takes about 30 minutes from start to finish.  (Elves will be located all throughout the parade so some will finish earlier than others.)
It is best for parents to be at the end of the parade by 9am.  Parents can also walk in the parade with students if they choice to.  Please bring SAT credit hour forms in order to receive credits.  YOU MUST BE AT THE PARKING LOT BY 8am at the LATEST in order to participate in the parade and receive credit!!!
Thanks so much and please forward this email.  More volunteers are needed in order to make this year’s parade litter free.
Thank you for all you do,

OPERATION HAPPY BOMB

Standard

HI guys,

A favor to ask for a dear childhood friend of mine.  Maria has been ill
since the summer after our graduation and has yet to recover.  Treatment has
included a four organ transplant and this year, she is up for yet another
transplant.  Once a bright, college-bound athlete and the picture of health
and by far our friend with the sunniest personality, she’s been a prisoner
to basically, a mystery illness.

She has made it to the finals for an HGTV makeover/renovation of her home,
which would be her sanctuary for recovery after her surgery.

Voting is easy, you don’t have to log in, simply visit the link on my
facebook or :
http://my.hgtv.com/hgtvd/Multipurpose-Room/Historic-Loft-Renovation-Seeking-Dream-Makeover/detail.esi?oid=25137274&cObjId=25137285
and vote for her.  I’d really appreciate it and she’s so independent, this
is as close as she has come to asking for help in over ten years.

Help me make her life a tiny bit easier, help her win her “happy bomb.”. .
.and I wouldn’t be bummed if you forwarded this to any of your HGTV junkie
friends.  🙂

Please and thank you in advance, every vote helps.

~McKenzie

**** UPDATE-I have had folks ask HOW to vote.  Towards the top right there is a series of stars, when you pass your mouse over them, they turn red. . .click the far right star next to her “score” and it votes for you.  I believe you can only vote once but we are looking into the HGTV rules.  So, in case you can only vote once, spreading the word really helps since every vote for Maris is so precious.  Thanks for all your help!
