JBOR Election and Affiliates night.

Image

A brief explanation.  The last few years have had progressively more fun themes for our annual Jacksonville (NC) Board of Realtor’s election and affiliate night. This year was more or less a night at the Emmy’s/Hollywood evening.  So, folks were encouraged to dress as characters. . .I was thrilled to manage to squeeze into something non-maternity for a night but I think had I done a youtube video of me trying to get into some spanx (spoiler, I wasn’t successful) whilst getting ready would have easily scored more views than that cat riding the roomba.  ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLt5rBfNucc)  Safe to say, especially if you have European heritage and have assisted your Grandmother making sausage, a nine month pregnant woman trying to get into “smooth wear” basically looks like fifty pounds of sausage trying to get into ten pounds of casing, alternate image, a python who ate a deer.

Adapt and overcome!  😉

Baby Garrett is a motivator in more ways than one.

I never thought I was a person who would get such pleasure from doing something someone had told me wasn’t possible, even if I wasn’t planning to do so.  I have made some personal and professional decisions over the years based on the supposition that children of my own were a very long shot, at least without serious medical intervention.

This handsome fellow, with his fist in the air says challenge your thoughts, challenge convention.  When life places a bend in your path or an “obstacle” you weren’t anticipating. . .take the dive.  I have to admit, previously I had been a “keep the status quo” kind of girl, anti-surprise party. . .and a planner ten steps in advance (as a very clumsy child who was placed in ballet as a toddler- plotting your next dozen steps keeps you from tripping and falling).  HE has been the most mind blowing and joyous surprise I could have NEVER anticipated.

Part of me would love to pack up Garrett for a visit to the Brody School of Medicine for a hello and visit to some nurses I got to know very well years ago, but I’m so pleased with the (not so, since I’m writing here) silent knowledge  that despite some crazy hurdles, insane odds, and what-are-the-chances timing. . .he’s almost here.

To date, Garrett is the best adventure I’ve taken.  I can’t wait to see what my cohort and I get into in this next very exciting chapter in my life.  So far, he’s been a most excellent and gallant escort while meeting clients and showing homes.  🙂

May you have many exciting new chapters in YOUR life and amazing adventures on your horizon.

Pies, guns, furniture and roasted lamb.

Is it just me or are men game for almost any activity that involves a gun?

Tomorrow, nursery furniture arrives.  Well, two dressers, two twin beds, a nightstand and a rocking chair in tiger’s eye maple.  As a Realtor, I enjoy hearing clients figure out loud which rooms will be for which family member and where furniture will go.  I’m lacking that clarity thus far.  Not 100% sure where everything will be set up and there’s the matter of the crib.

Dear baby supply stores and big box outlets: please don’t leave things on your display floor that are A. already sold out 2. not an option to purchase as they have been on display and are considered “unsafe for resale” and III. provide no alternates for ordering purposes.  So, of course I have scoped out some back-up options which aren’t exactly what I had in mind but in terms of features and function are on par, but price point, of course is more. . .beware the DANG upsale!  Le sigh.

Tomorrow is a big gathering at the house, to both unpack and unload furniture but also to meet and greet.  I’m taking full advantage of pregnancy insomnia to catch up on projects that didn’t get done today while showing homes.  I have one key lime pie (from scratch) complete and cooling and one “crack” pie in the oven ( http://chefindisguise.com/2013/06/27/momofuku-milk-bar-crack-pie/ ) and deviled eggs hanging out in the fridge.  Tomorrow I am whipping up some roasted lamb and a tenderloin, couscous and ratatouille.  Somehow I feel if I can’t help with the heavy lifting I can at least make sure everyone is full after the fact.

And for those thirty of so of you per week that are finding my site looking for a registry (I use my nerd powers for good instead of evil (-; ) , target, babies r us and amazon-   at some point I suppose I should post links and I’ll get around to that, but there’s laundry to be done and a wiry black lab puppy who needs a bath before we call it a night!

Hope your summer is treating you well!  As always, you’re welcome to contact me @ McKenzieSellsHomes@gmail.com for Residential Real Estate questions and needs.  Rentals, sales, bank-owned, short sale, investment and more- I’m your Eastern North Carolina connection.

Memorial Weekend

Standard

As usual, I’m working on a holiday weekend, but, also as usual, for a great reason.  Helping military families enjoying a 96 (96 hours off) away from work find a place to call home.  Please remember the reason for the holiday weekend.  Check out a few great links.  I’m off to dodge rain drops and lock boxes that bite as I show homes today.  Enjoy your weekend!

Breaking up is hard to do!

Standard

Ah, the turns in the market have all sorts of effects!  After nearly ten years with a certain web host, I’m leaving.  I feel like this is akin to dumping someone on facebook since I have yet to call their office and break the bad news.  Initially, they were dashing, had tons of skillz (bowhunting, nunchuck, etc. a la Napoleon Dynamite). . .but then I started reading Wired mag, learning a little html, getting back in touch with my inner geek (amazing what ten to fifteen years, some lip gloss and a great blow out can do for your geek image, though, I know reading glasses are around the corner soon.).

In short.  I want every bell and whistle I can to serve you better, which, means I have to jump ship and design a new website that better meshes with the other various platforms I have a soap box on. . .and I hope you’ll follow.  I can always been found here at good old WordPress, Twitter, and Facebook. . .and www.910Homes.net will ALWAYS exist, but for the next day or two, I’m smearing it with a face mask, giving it a mani/pedi, and trimming off the dead ends and I hope you love the result.

In the meantime, ignore my eyelid twitch from too much computer time.

Spring has sprung which was cause for a new blog title.

Standard

TheGlassHouseBlog.com is alive and kicking. . .feel free to pick up a rock every now and then and pitch it my way.  Love some feedback and more ideas. . .this year I think there are a few treats in store in terms of format, new topics, etc. so keep checking back.  New business cards are on order. . .and at some point this spring, I’ll get around to a new head shot but enjoy the snap to your left for the time being.

Lots happening in the real estate market of Onslow County NC.  I have a few blogs-in-progress but work, handily, gets in the way at times and dampens the creative spirit.  Adding some new folks to the team this year as well, so, should you visit, new smiling faces to meet.

If you’d like a snap shot of the market conditions for your specific needs and timeline, it’s a free serice I provide as well as free relocation services. . .if you’re anywhere in the world, I can research and find you an experienced and friendly agent with a rockin’ track record so you aren’t just throwing darts at the phone book looking for talanted help.

Visit www.910homes.net . . .and if you know a talented computer geek (or happen to be one), I’d love some new layout ideas/options. . .thinking over web domain renovation and I’m open to suggestions.

In the meantime, I’m wrapping up some comparative market analysis projects for a few homes today and managed while out at lunch to find some cotton candy scented body spray at Walgreen’s to complete the Easter Bunny ensemble I’ll don for the annual office Easter party.  Like Elle Woods in Legally Blonde with her pink scented resume. . .I figured smelling less like a costume out of a box after a year, smelling like candy might be helpful with scared wee ones.  We shall see!
